Meet Moments...

Pekin Fresh-Soph Invitational 2009
IHot and humid best describes this typical afternoon cross country meet held at Pekin High School. On a hilly course, the Turks Fresh/Soph team ran against other area teams including Pekin, Morton, and several Peoria High teams. Both the boys and girls had strong individual results and displayed the usual Turk pride, hard work and great sportsmanship. We're proud of all of you!

Rochester 2009
It was supposed to be sunny and 80 and while it probably was sunny and 80 somewhere, it was anything but that in Rochester. With temps hovering in the upper 60's and cloudy skies threatening rain, the Lady Turks took to the course to open their 2009 season. There are familiar faces of course but lots of new girls as well. Jamee and Hannah led the girls team placing 6th and 10 overall. Roundind out the top 5 were Hope, Kristen and Hannah F. Way to go girls. We're expecting a strong girls team and when some old injuries heal, and we expect to be in the hunt this year at Detweiller!

Next up were the boys. And the rain. Yes, what started as a drizzle ended as a steady rain. In fact, one of our boys took a corner a little too fast and you can guess what happened (speed+rain+grass = you're goin' down!). The boys are also batteling some injuries but finished strong with Cole leading to boys to an impressive start of the season.

Thanks so much to all the parents who drove to Rochester to support the team. It means a lot to the kids to see so many familiar faces.

Elmwood Sectionals
Saturday, November 1st was an extraordinary day. Beautiful sunshine, temperatures in the 60's, leaves on the trees vibrant shades of gold, red and orange and, oh yea, theTurks are goin' to State!.

The Lady Turks started the day for Tremont. With only 6 runners competing, it would take a team effort to advance. The girls were up to the challenge!

Jamee led the way for the Turks finishing 9th overall. Hannah, Katie, Kristen, Carrie and Rachel teamed up to lead the team to a 3rd place finish.

Next up were the boys. The guys had high expectations for Sectionals and they sure delivered. Only 1 point seperated them from Elmwood and from victory. Congratulations to Parker who successfully defended his Sectionals Title with a decisive victory.

Amboy Columbus Day Invitational
On Monday, October 13th, the Turks travelled to Amboy, Illinois to participate in the annual Amboy Columbus Day Invitational. Actually, the team travelled to nearby Dixon on Sunday afternoon to spend some time together, run the course ahead of time and generally enjoy being together.

The Turks enjoyed a great meal prepared by the parents and then headed off somewhere while the parents held the usual "Amboy Parents Club Meeting". After electing Don as President and CEO of the Parents Club, the date of the final awards banquet was decceided on: November 13, at the Cabin!

The race on Monday was very exciting. The clouds provided relief from the temperature and the times reflected what was a great day to run. The day started with Taylor winning the Fresh/Soph race! Way to go Taylor!.

The girls then took the course and ran a great race. Several of the girls had their best times and the team finished 5th. The boys added to the Turks winning ways by finishing 3rd. Finally, a great day was completed with great performances in the Open race.

Elmwood Invitational
On Monday, October 6th, the Turks participated in a rare weekday meet, traveling to Elmwood to compete on the course where Sectionals will be held later this month..

The Turks ran what we like to call "photographer's pace", that is nice and slow so the photographers can keep up with them!

The times weren't fast but the course was beautiful as it held at picturesque Maple Lane Country Club. The trees were just starting to turn so by the time Sectionals is here, the scenery should be spectacular!
