| 1. |
We will practice or have meets MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY every week throughout the season. Practice will never be cancelled due to bad weather. We will run in rain, snow, sleet or wind. Do not ever skip practice because you think that the weather is bad. Races are run in all kinds of weather and the practices will prepare you for the meets. |
| 2. |
You are expected to be at all practices. If you can not attend a practice you must make it up later in the week with Mr. Lynn at his convenience. This will probably mean running Sunday or very early in the morning at Mr. Lynn's house. Please let Mr. Lynn know before a practice if you must be absent. If you miss a Saturday practice due to illness call Mr. Lynn later in the day to let him know why you were absent. If you become sick during a school day you must talk to Mr. Lynn personally before going home. If you leave without seeing him your absence will be considered to be unexcused. |
| 3. |
If a practice is not made up you will attend the next meet but will not be allowed to run. If you are held out of one meet for this reason or for low grades you will lose the chance to win any special awards at the end of the season. If you are held out of two meets you will lose your letter or JV award. If you are held out of 3 meets you will be dismissed from the team. You have made a commitment to the team and we must be able to count on you. |
| 4. |
Practices are designed to help you improve cardiovascular fitness and mental toughness. Personal growth in these areas is a prime objective for each team member. Therefore I will expect you to assume an attitude that shows a desire to improve each day. You are never too good to improve! We want every runner to reach his or her full potential. the greatest satisfaction comes not just from winning, but from doing better that you ever have before. You are never so good or so bad that improving doesn't matter. We want every runner to gain the satisfaction of improving. When you improve, you force the runners ahead of you to improve. this improvement can often make the difference between a successful and an unsuccessful season for the entire team. |
| 5. |
If a practice must be missed, and ONLY if arrangements are made with Mr. Lynn ahead of time, an athlete might be allowed to make up a practice with a parent. The parent must be with the athlete running, biking, or driving during the run. the parent must personally notify Mr. Lynn of the successful completion of the workout. this is on a limited basis for trial period this year. this is not a desirable situation and is to be used only on a very limited basis. |
| 6. |
The requirements for earning a varsity letter are to successfully complete all practices and score at least 5 points in meets. A point is earned by finishing ahead of the 5th runner from another team in a dual meet. In an invitational meet, 3 points are scored by finishing in the top third of all runners, 2 points for finishing in the middle third and 1 point for finishing in the bottom third. |
